Haha, it's a silly name for Brisbane in Australia.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I feel confident enough to rub back some of the colour and get a better shape to the burst. I also had quite a sizeable hole at the tail end and it hasn't filled as well as I hoped so I'm going to take a day off and try fixing the hole tomorrow. Onward and upward.

Hi Simon. I was looking at your diary. Lovely burst by the way. I noticed that you scrape the edge binding. Doh! I've been masking them. Like you, I'm weather limited for now. Give me more time to get the burst done right. Think I might even assemble it and then, when the weather heats up, strip it and finish it off. Nothing getting done today. I ran into bad company yesterday and have a hangover.

Some people here have been masking the edge binding with good results. I started scraping because that's the way people like Gibson do it - it would take them far too long if they had to accurately mask the binding off on each guitar. It's quite a slow job though - and gets harder if you give the paint too long to dry.

Some bindings on PBG kits have taken up a lot of stain in small cracks, so a lot of people do mask off when staining. Otherwise sanding to 2000 grit and polishing the binding helps prevent this. Obviously you've got to be fairly accurate when masking off binding otherwise you either cover some of the wood or leave some binding exposed.

If you put holes in the body, just be careful that the edges are sealed when you come to do any final wet sanding. Otherwise water will fill the holes, the wood will swell and you've now got bumps that are very difficult to smooth off again.

Back to work. Got some 400 grit sheets for my detail sander so going to hit that tail and get it smooth. What's the best? put neck on before final finish or after? I'll be using Gorilla wood glue. Will that be ok?
Electrics are all wired and working. Ended up using the config shown in the guide. Can experiment later with LP wiring.
Been promised warmer weather next week so can get outside and kick out some fumes. I got Tung oil but tried it on scrap wood and it takes too long to dry and not really high gloss. We don't get Dingo stuff here.
    So, here we go.
