I went to call into the local Veneer supplier today during my lunch break. I park outside it every time I head into town to grab something for lunch. Every other day it is open..........Except today!!! FML!!

It's a bit of a weird setup there. They don't have a show room per se, or at least not one that's visible from the road side. There's a massive big industrial sized sliding door which is the entrance, but it looks like you are walking directly into the factory, not an office/showroom area. I'll have to check it out on Monday.
In other news, here's effort #2(Right) & #3(Left)
#2 was too narrow, I realised part way through that the tuning machines would have crossed over each other, so that was not workable.
#3 is getting there, but maybe too wide towards the higher tuning machines. If I'm able to find a happy medium between these two, then I think I'm on a winner.
Rounding out the corners like Franken mentioned has certainly helped.
Back to the doodling!!

With the more steeply angled headstock sides, you'll almost certainly need some locking tuners to keep the strings in place. With the flatter sides, you've got possible string interference issues, so once you've settled on the design from the top, I'd work up a side elevation to check the string break angles over the tuning posts and whether you are getting enough vertical clearance of each string above the next tuner.
On number 2, it could be possible if the tuners were staggered, but the strings wouldn't run very straight to the tuners, and you'd certainly have to check on the side angle as to whether the stings would clear each other. But probably best to use a different design.
Keep thinking away!
Yep, #2 is definitely too steep an angle. Somewhere between #2 & #3 is the sweet spot.
I got a cheapo set of bottom locking tuners. We'll see how they go.
Damn, this is starting to sound like an engineering job!!

It is! Someone's got to do the engineering design on every guitar. This time it's you!
