    Hi all,

Finally made some progress on the weekend, lightly rubbed back those parts I wasn't happy with.... I think it was due to going to hard on the intensifying coats. Shaped the head stock... almost time for the final DB finishing coat.

Questions about the dreaded set neck... this is my plan.... finish the coats, let them dry and then clamp the neck in place where I have already marked off where I think it should be set (no glue yet!). Fit the bridge and tailpiece properly and then run the E strings to the bridge to check everything.

I know that there are other guidelines on this... however I am at work and can't be on here long! Any feedback to this approach?

Eg - what to look for... any other expert tips. I have a feeling the nut is too high but I shall see.... I may use heavy gauge strings so it may not be an issue.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Hey Slayer, just caught up with this thread.

I found it interesting that it took so long to dry since your in WA, being hot with no humidity.

Anyway, just be careful with the final coats that you don't lay it as thick as you did with the intensifying coats. wait for each coat to dry/cure before putting the next finish coat on.

As for the neck, heres a helpful vid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyXO...9mmu8Ff0a_opOv

You wont be able to check the nut properly until you set the neck. I would, in the meantime check that your frets are level.

Thanks Andy. I was busy with other things, it would have been dry a few weeks back!

Yep, defo going with light individual coats for the finish!

Cheers for the youtube vid. I have done the recommended measurements from the nut to the 12th fret crown etc... just nervous that one that puppy is glued that's it!

Cool, I will have to read up on leveling the frets as I haven't done that.

Already thinking of what kit to do next haha (like I don't already have too many axes...).

Finally glued the neck. All seems to line up well. Let this sit for a few days and then get onto the finishing coats.

Hello nice job, even I want to do one, excuse the question you changed the pickups? I would like to understand how to play those in the kit in stock, thanks a lot.

Hi David, thanks, still a bit of work to do before I start wiring the pickups etc.... in the pics above I have just done a mock build with the stock pickups... I might put some Seymour Duncan's in it that I have.

Sorry, I am not sure what you are asking in relation to 'play those in stock kit'? Do you mean wiring them in? There are wiring diagrams in the 'Guides' tab at the top of the page for all the kits.
