    Sanding

    Hi,
New here, after speaking with Adam decided to take the plunge and purchase Explorer bass kit for my son. We have help thankfully , but will be doing preliminaries on our own. I printed off the Quick Guide and we will get started. Not sure it's crucial to see sanding video, but I can't find it in case anyone knows what happened to it? Thank you

Welcome Chrisbass. I think some of the videos are being replaced. The trick is always sand with the grain, don't sand too fine, and when you think have finished sanding - do so more sanding.

    Welcome to the forum Chrisbass.

As a fellow EX-5 owner/builder it is a pretty easy kit to build and happy to answer any questions that may crop up.

With sanding the main trick is to start at around 80 grit across front & back in the direction of the grain and then same on the perpendicular sides. The temptation will be there to sand along the edges but you will need to remove all of the machine markings first and that can only be done by sanding with the grain up to about 180 or maybe 240 grit. Once smooth on the edges you can start sanding in the direction of the body shape.

Make sure you check fret board to make ensure it is flat and then do the rocker test with all of the frets to make sure none are sitting too high. After these have been checked and sorted only tricky bit is mounting the bridge which looks harder than what it is and lots of help available through videos on this forum or plenty of current builds on the go at any one time.

    Cheers, Waz

Hi Chris and welcome. Some of the videos have been removed because they were done by Adam shortly after PBG started up, and he got some of the techniques wrong (he admits he's not a luthier), so after advice from others, he then pulled the worst offenders.

    Good luck with the build!

Some of the vids have also just moved - I'll chase down the sanding one - it's still relevant, but not essential. Try this one - Gavin1393 is one of the mods from the Pitbull crew... https://youtu.be/iRXXvkN2Tc0
