Hi DB,
Today I finally got ready to apply the stain coat to my guitar. But when I opened the bottle after shaking there was a black film over the top of the bottle. I have had it for a bit over a year (without opening) but I was wondering would shaking more until it dissolved be fine or is this a sign that it's gone off?

Yeah.
Looking at it it could be protective film that's partially dissolved, or could be build up. Black Stump makes it hard to tell.
Ok. Plastic bottles makes it the original blend.....
