Looks OK but understand what you mean about too much orange. Maybe just need to sand off the clear top coats so you can then lay some more red to intensify the burst?

Looks like the clear coats have changed the colour?

Yeah, look when you put down the clear colours DT finals always leech a little bit of the colour. I haven't changed my tactic in laying it down though. Its almost like the ash has sucked the colour out over time or something.

I think you are right though Waz....I think i have to suck it up and sand off the final coats (smiling through clenched teeth) and just lay down some more colour

I might need a few days to accept my fate.

Hi buddy, pretty weird as both of my DT finished builds have gone a bit darker over time not lighter as this one appears. I did revert to using 'poo oil' as DB calls it but that hasn't had the same effect on the other 2 builds.

Have you noticed any of your other DT finishes doing the same thing or have they remained the same or gone darker over time?

I dont know about that colour Andy yellow looks good but the orange looks a bit anemic was the burst rubbed or sprayed ? is that an ash body grain looks like its sucking up the colour and the clear, clear looks like its going to take some rubbing back be intersting to see how the end product looks

    @ Waz and Phroz

None of my other guitars colour leeched like this especially my TLA-1R, still as dark as when i started.

    Its an enigma.

I think i've got three real choices
    1. leave it as it is and try to love her.....(Don't think so);
    2. Try to sand back just the final coats and either re-stain or spray a burst as Phroz says. (I dont think its goign to take anymore stain, so spraying maybe the only option 'cept thats going to muck with the finish, ie cant use DT or tru oil over paint.
    3. sand the whole thing back and start again.

Hi buddy, I remember on mine after sanding back a little bit they did take some more intensifier as I had stripped more colour off than intended and needed to touch things up. If you think it is something to do with the clear coat you know what the alternative is as you have been there before.

    Cheers, Waz

You got to fix it as it will piss you off everytime you look at it If you spray the burst lightly all you need to do is sand it flat and spray a light burst orange over your clear will do the trick

You reckon acrylic colour and clear coats, Phroz?

Dingotone is oil based as I remember.

If Dingotone is oil based then blending red artists oil paints onto the faded burst may be an effective 4th option.
Oil paint blends and feathers really well.
Dab small amounts of the oil paint around the inside edge of the burst and then work it out towards the edge with a decent brush, maybe a cm or 2 wide. Then apply more little blobs closer to the edge and keep working it outwards.
You could try keeping the brush very slightly (VERY slightly) moist with low odour turps or something similar if you need to but try without to start.
You're looking to create a "filter" effect with the oil paint and the strength of the colour of that filter is controlled by how much paint you blend on.
Build the effect up slowly and leave plenty of time for oil paint to dry.
