Yep. I hadn't touched the old body.

I have done more to the tummy cut and elbow cut in the last 2 hours and sanded with 120 and then 180. Having a cuppa and see if I feel like doing more tonight. The cuts are now pretty close to my satisfaction, but I'll have a look with fresh eyes for the next round.

What colour timbermate do I purchase to fill a few "cracks"? I am going to finish the body with a Dingotone sunburst.
Is going with the natural and tinting it with a little black stump and then sanding it back a good idea?

The grain is very tight, but there are hairlines mainly through the middle timber where it will be yellow. I am thinking a little black might bring out the grain?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris, looks like alder timber, I usually choose a dark Timbermate will highlight the grain more so ebony is the darkest.
Might be worth getting another small container of a lighter colour Timbermate in case you don't like the look of the darker grain.

Cool, thanks for the advice Andy!

Perhaps another stupid newbie question coming up...

Before I slam the Timbermate on, what grit do I sand the body with? I am up to 240grit now.

Oh and I have surprised myself with the cuts, they have come out really well.

Hi Chris, I usually sand the body to about 240/320 grit before applying the timbermate. Let the Timbermate cure/dry overnight then sand the bulk of it off with 320 grit and you should be right to start staining. Don't sand any higher grit as it polishes the timber surface and the timber pores won't take the stain as well.
