This is what I thought would be a simple question, but either I'm using the wrong search terms or there's something I haven't understood. I've never had a guitar with p90s and I don't know anything about them.
I'm thinking about building a JR-1M. Love the shape, love the simplicity, mahogany looks nice, and so on.
This time I don't want to go with stock pickups. The stock pickups look to be "dog ear" p90s. If I'm wrong about that, let me know.
The questions:
Are there any aftermarket p90s in the PBG shop that fit on the JR-1M? None seem to have the dog ear covers, which seems like it might be a problem.
Are the p90 covers removable, or integral to the pickups? If they're removable, could I just take the cover off a stock one, put it on the aftermarket one, and problem solved?
And finally (this one seems to get the asker abused in some forums), can I replace the p90 with a humbucker? How hard is that? What steps would be involved?
I'm sure the answers will just raise more questions, but as usual I look forward to hearing everyone's advice, and I'm sure I'm about to learn a lot more than I would have thought I needed to know
