    Reynod's new build ... for James (LPA-1F)

Ok ... so my son's pal James bought an LPA-1F on the 16th of September and, after staining it red cedar some time back (after sanding the hell out of it) I am now ready to glue the neck.

I wanted to fit the machineheads and bridge first and make sure the neck is straight with a couple of light strings under a little tension first .. .am I on the right track here?

Previously I build a Strat kit (Artist) ... which was so easy with a bolt-on neck ... this whole glue thing has me worried.

Can I trust the neck is spot on and just go ahead and glue and clamp it?

    My experience says no ...

Would love some advice before I execute ... and invariably pay the price.

    Thanks in advance ...

Clamping the neck in place and checking scale length, neck alignment (string spacing to fretboard edge) and action/neck angle is always a wise move. You should also check for any gaps around the neck pocket that may indicate either the neck isn't sitting correctly in the pocket could cause issues when glueing.

    Thanks Scott.

I have fitted the machineheads now ... and the bridge inserts.

Will flip a couple of light strings on it and see how much Play I have ... and whether it needs to be shimmed out.

Like I said ... this is my first glue job.

The bolt on necks are more to my liking.

    Cheers for the professional assist.

Ok ... had enough movement above the fretboard with the bridge wound slighly up (2mm) Scott and its pretty flat (used a straight edge.

Glued and clamped ... prayed to the god Crom ... will check it in a week.

Might need some more help then.

    Cheers,

    Darren
