My buddy who now owns it has sent it to me to remove the graffiti and re spray that section, as well as a new control cover so he can put her in his shop to sell.
Damn, so I guess it's saveable then?

Thankfully yes. The childish graffiti can be sanded out.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Looks like they were built in the same way Alembic Basses were back then

Lots of guitars and bases being built in the late '70s to very early '80s with that form of construction, mainly Japanese. Ibanez, Aria, Vantage, Washburn & Westone - to name but I few that I know of. Not all had a natural finish. Probably copying the Alembic style initially as Tweaky said, though there may may been others apart from Alembic doing it, though Alembic were certainly the best known.

    DiMarzio pickups? Super distortions?

This article is a fairly comprehensive explanation of the origins of Rama guitars, timbers, electrics and hardware used

A very interesting read DB. I was right about the DiMarzios - though the tapped (3-wire) Dual Sounds rather than pure Super Distortions.
