    ST-1 Build

Hi everyone I have finally been able to start my build after receiving my kit a while ago now. For my first time build I have decided to do a hot rodded strat type and hopefully I havent taken on too much for a first timer! Heres the kit as I got it and at first inspection I didnt think it needed any sanding (to my rough hands anyway)! But after sanding I couldnt beleive how much better it felt. The kit has a maple neck and fret board, ash body with routing for a floyd rose type trem.

Due to bad weather I got some sanding and grain filling done on the body and the neck is just about finished. I'm going for a 70s era fender headstock. I need some advise on paint, the colour will be white but I'm thinking of just doing matte finish with the possibility of doing it road worn. As I dont have access to an airbrush can I just go with a rattle can? Will I need a primer? Click image for larger version.

I guess it depends on how road worn you want to go. If you are going to scrub big areas of top coat off having a contrasting colour primer underneath like grey could work to your advantage. Flat white is going to grab and hold all your dirty hand prints so it's gonna get grubby pretty quick.

    interesting plans
and yes to rattle can - you get better results if the can has been pre warmed - put it in a dish of hot water
and yes to primer, you'll have all sorts of issues getting the paint to adhere and getting good coverage

Just a question before I paint, I have obviously sanded all the timbermate back and have given it a good dry wipe down but keep getting timbermate 'dust' coming off. Should I keep wiping before primer or what?

just give it a final decent dry wipe or a quick going over with a tac cloth, then the primer should seal it in. just do a light coat first dont try and cover it all in one coat
