Anyone familiar with Carson Electric Guitars?

Just had this photo sent to me from my Dad.

It's a Carson guitar of some description, and they are very hard to find much information about on the net. I'm thinking they were a sub brand of another manufacturer. One possible details I have found is that they were built in South Korea.
Could be a potential rebuild job. Apparently it only cost my Dad's mate $2 at the tip shop!!

The post says reviews at Harmony Central a bit of a search showed some threads but I don't have time to read and report at the moment

Thanks Dave, I saw both of those pages earlier, but missed the link to a few reviews.
Nothing to write home about, but it's something to work from.
One comment says - Not bad for a Fat Strat.....
What would this mean? It has a thicker body?

    Mmmmmm, ideas forming already!!
A nice matching set of these Lace Alumitone coloured Pickups and some blue paua, or even blue pearloid replacement fretboard markers would look sweet against that polished black paint work!!

I swear I have to set a separate thread like DB's corner.
I'll call it The Village Idiot Lives Here, and it's where I ask all the stupid "I should already know this.....but I don't" questions!!!

Sorry for any confusion Dave, but I have no experience with electrics prior to jumping into a build, so most of the acronyms go straight over the top of my head!!

No worries, those of us of a pensionable age have heard most of these expressions once or twice

I got the guitar in my hands today, and its a pretty rough nut to be honest. It's been dropped a couple of times and the paint is chipped rather badly on the back. I'll take some photos for everyone tomorrow. It needs a new nut, and all the stickers will come off tomorrow too so I can see what I'm working with. It has no strings, so how can I test the pick ups? Plug it in and tap them with something?

Plug it in and tap the pups lightly with the tip of a small screwdriver, check all of the control positions while doing this and you'll be on your way.

It's what I do before stringing up builds or refurbs so I'm not wasting strings
