HI what grade of steel wool do you use to polish the fretboard? It feel a bit rough, can I use clear stain to make it smoother?

0000 grade steel wool generally should be fine - go with the grain - try not to take too much off. Some LemOil or DingoWax should be fine for the fretboard, but I'd try to avoid some of the other stains / waxes - anything that "sits" on the fretboard will end up on the strings...

Here is a pro tip for ya, Michael.
Use a Stanley knife blade as a cabinet scraper. You can get right up to the frets and it will leave your fingerboards noice and smooth
