    Ok,

So an update. I'm using the lemon juice to remove the dark stain with a lint free cloth and letting it dry. Then repeating the process.

The ink is coming out but not by much. Would 00-00 steel wool be worth trying very very lightly?

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Hi Alkay, worth a try using the steel wool. I'd say the ink has soaked in through the whole veneer so I'd say you may not be able to remove it other than sanding through the veneer
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds

    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

    Hi wokkaboy,

I've tried some steel wool, but I think you are right in that the ink is soaked through the whole veneer. It is very thin.

Do you think I should just keep doing the lemon juice and just keep wiping until I can't see any colour on the lint free cloth?

Then do a light mix of water and cedar for the body. Not sure what ratio to use but lighter is always better as I can always go darker. If you look at the pine test I did with the cedar you can see it's quite dark. I actually don't mind it but you guys would know what the end result will look like with your experience.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Hey Alkay, sure keep trying the lemon juice soak.

I'd recommend watering down the cedar stain to start with, you can always go darker as you said.

    Hi wokkaboy,

There's not much ink coming off with the lemon juice. I did more testing today with different ratios of cedar : water on the pine.

Photo probably doesn't show it but I quite like the 2:1 mix because the others are just too light:

As you said I can always go darker if I like.

    Ok so an update,

I haven't done any staining yet.

So I will start with the 2:4 ml mix and try and get it to the 2:1 as pictured above using the amount of coats required.

I'll see how it looks after the first coat though.

I'll give an update soon but I have to sand the sides and back first because I'll use the same colour.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Hi mate, 2:1 on the pine sample looks OK and with a dark background that probably won't fade much more from the lemon juice it will most likely come out looking like an old reliced antique which I think is what you were after?

    Hey mate,

Yes that is the sort of look I was after. I think it will look alright now that it appears to be a bit lighter.
I'm just going to get more sand paper for the sides and back which haven't been touched yet.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

    Hey guys,

Is there a video guide in this forum for sanding techniques? I did a search but didn't come across one however I found a really helpful guide if you do a search for: how to sand a les paul guitar youtube

Just thought this might help others that are just starting out new like me.

    Cheers,

    Alkay
