Hey Michael, flaming in the neck sometimes maple has a flame effect in the grain ie like the flame maple veneer kits, the grain actually looks like fire flame shapes.

you have to be patient to get the best finish mate, DB always reminds us that the finish is the most important part of the build and you will be rewarded for taking your time with a guitar that will last for many years and still look good.

easy to fix the temptation of bolting the guitar together, get another build on the go, it's called GAS hahah

The build is looking excellent by the way !
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks

    Completed builds

    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Blowing the dust off this thread...*deep breath*

I finished and assembled the guitar late 2016, and was pretty happy with it. It came up a treat! A few issues with the frets, they need a proper levelling. But otherwise ok.

But then design creep kicked in...more on that to come

That looks great Michael. I don't know if I'm happy or anxious about your "design creep" statement. I love it as it is.

Strings have been removed because I plan to level and recrown frets this weekend, but for now...

This is the result of some design creep. Always loved the look of teles with a bigsby, so that had to go on. Replaced the saddles with threaded saddles.
The neck pickup is a cheap filtertron style humbucker. Switch is 5-way start switch, with

    1. Neck humbucker
    2. Neck single coil + bridge (parellel)
    3. Neck humbucker and bridge
    4. Neck single coil + bridge (series)
    5. Bridge

Pickups sound great, but was hard to pickup and play because of the frets. Fixing that this weekend hopefully! But I love the look of it, bit different from the TL-1 I had in mind originally

    Phew! Nicely done. Great customisations.

One question, why are the bridge pickup screws standing up so far? Surely they should be sitting down against the bridge plate.

Good spot fretworn, they should be flat..if I used the correct screws. I lost the original screws that came with that pickup, so I used the screws I had on hand, which were countersunk, hence them poking up the top.

How does string through and bigsby work?

I always thought Bigsby's were strung from on top through the rear most round tube?

Good pickup. I just feed the strings normally through the bigsby, leaving the string through holes unused
