    Talking Brendan's SGB-34

So - scored a new bass - I know I've got a couple of builds underway, but what's one more 'eh?

So unboxing has been done - see thread here: http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=5541.

Starting to think colours - though a black - 'hog colour scheme seems to be winning at the moment...

Quick review of the kit to date...

Quality is top notch - just seems that they have got it right - if I had any issues, it'd be that I'm short changed in terms of how much sanding I get to do. After about an hour I can hardly see any tool marks and have started to progress through the grits already - it looks like I won't have to do too much sanding at all. Neck is a solid fit and feels good. Not sure about the scratchplate - then again - never been a fan... I think I will be changing out the knobs and pickup surrounds then do the standard electronics upgrades - Bournes switches and Switchcraft jack.

Overall - the kit is a real winner!

Forgot to add - control cavity cover is recessed and fits like a glove. Best quality kit I've seen so far...

Looking good Brendan. Just wondering if you will stick with the 3 point bridge or upgrade to something a bit more stable as plenty of the ESB4's have had a few dramas with that style bridge?

Being an SG surely it has gotta be heritage cherry red and agree with ditching the scratch plate.

Pretty happy with the kit - I'll give the original bridge a crack - see how I go - I've got a bit of veneer here so if needed I can pack the holes and make sure the ferrules are nice and tight.

Was thinking along the cherry red line, but have a couple of red basses so was thinking more of a black to mahogany burst - go dark and see if I can bring something back in the middle.

That's going to look nice Brendan. But I think that you have enough basses already don't you??

Jack Bruce, a long time influence for me used an SG bass in Cream I think.

Thanks Robin - I think this one will be for the kids to start with... 3/4 scale should be good for them.

I can't look at this kit without wanting to listen to some Cream... in fact, I'm listening to Cream right now.
    Scott.
