nice soldering tutorial Stan, definitely the weaker part of my builds.
Coming along well. What wiring diagram are you using ?

thanks Wokka, I might do a separate thread just on soldering.
I am lucky, I was an RAAF radio tech apprentice long, long ago.
And whilst I changed musterings and became a photographer with them, I was taught high reliability hand soldering. I have forgotton more than I remember, but most of my soldering usually stays put and functions.
Actually I am using one that came with the parts I bought from Realtone and is standard strat wiring:
1 neck
2 neck middle
3 middle
4 middle bridge
5 bridge
All you righties just hold it up to the mirror...

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on these Badboys. I've got a strat that I'm rebuilding that could do with some new tones.

I am wondering what Medium scatter wound is, i have never heard of it.
Hey Stan, thanks for the wiring diagram, I thought some of your wire joins on the pots and switch looked mirrored, so a silly question (I've never played a lefty axe) to turn the volume up to 10 for a lefty do you wind the knob clockwise or anticlockwise ? It's clockwise on a righty
I assume it's anti-clockwise so everything is mirrored other than the switch settings

@ darthdamo: if the build quality is anything to go by they are a quality item, and I hope they sound as good
@ tonyw: scatter wound is as the wire is being wound onto the pickup bobbin, each wind is not exactly next to the last like machine wound would be. This is due to either a less precise way of feeding the wire on, or the wire being guided literally by hand. As such every pickup is ever so slightly different from the last - so truly custom. As for the medium, I am not sure, but perhaps a medium value in ohms, these are between 6k and 7k ohms, as compared to a high output on which might be 12k, etc
@ wokka: no worries, and yes true left handed pots turn the other way, anti clockwise. Cheap lefties simply have righty pots in them, with righty knobs, yes the numbers go the other way as well on proper lefty numbered knobs

A 1963 strat pickup is 42AWG Formvar, scatter wound to an average of 8319 turns clockwise to approx 6.37k using all A5 mags with a south polarity, and staggered poles.
