    Griffo's LP1 build

    So the WOFTAM arrived today...

LP-1 with a flame maple veneer.

Standard bridge and pups, but will probably swap in alternative pups down the line
Electronic upgrades with Bourne pots, the fidelity widget, improved jack, shielded wires etc.
Realised that I didn't get the bone nut - bugger. I'll order one of those before the build gets too far along, but would have preferred DB to do the hard work on that one!

Mock up build has gone alright, found a few little niggles:
    - The pre-drilled pot holes are a little too small for the Bournes. Easy fix.
    - Small chip near the neck in the veneer - meh (I think). Hopefully by the time stain and finish is on it wont be noticeable. If it is - its character...

    - Gap between the neck and the neck HB. I honestly don't know if this is a thing, or just how its meant to fit. Neck fully seated as solidly in as it goes, but still has some air gap where you can see the light going into the cavity despite the HB being pushed as far neck-wards as the routing allows.

    - Only one nut on the replacement jack, can't sandwich the nuts around the mounting plate, and the ones from the original don't fit. Guess this is another green shed solution.
    - Anything else that I should be looking for / at that I haven't noticed yet?

    Thoughts for the final finish:
Pop the flame veneer with water-based dark ink, and sand it back lightly
Light stain on the veneer, protecting the bindings, darker stain on the rest of the body
V-shaped wedge of stain running up the back of the neck
Stained veneer piece on the headstock
Coat it all in the oil-which-must-not-be-named.

Torn between doing blue and green, and also doing layers of different intensity / darkness of stain colour to accentuate a more 3D effect.
Or possibly slapping on a DT Karijini Red.
Anyone got personal experience with any of those?

Hi Griffo, kit looks pretty good. Looks like you will need to route or chisel some of the neck pup cavity on the neck side so the neck pup is flush with the bottom of the neck/fingerboard. Before you do that make sure enough of the pup surround will cover the bridge side of the neck pup cavity.
Once the neck is glued you won't even notice the small chip.
Stain plans sound great. Really the colours are entirely up to you. Most colour combinations will suit this model axe
Don't pre-sand the cap before the black dye, these caps are only about 0.6mm thick so go easy !
