Wow, leave the room for a bit and everyone settles right in! Even if it is a WOFTAM, doesn't mean its not fun! Which trumps all.
So I've started sanding at 180 and moving soon to 240 and it looks nice so far.
Also time to drill out the pot holes so they actually fit...
Checked out other peoples questions about glue, bindings, headstock veneers etc and learnt a heap.
Plan being to casually protect / avoid the bindings but not stress it too much, and then polish it up down the track as per http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=2176
Off to the BGSFOS some time soon to pick up wire brushes, got a nasty smear of glue inside the horn cutout, thankfully not an obvious spot. Can't tell about any others just yet, guessing they'll appear at grain-popping time most likely.
Picked up a piece of veneer from guitaraust.com.au today, nice guy and conveniently close. If anyone is in Melb, he does have whole-body sized sheets of veneer, but doesn't advertise it due to shipping. Thankfully the headstock is flat so the gluing process will be significantly easier.
Ah, one question having read someone elses thread about fret distances, symmetry etc. I've measured mine up, everything seems symmetrical, everything is getting progressively closer as they go, and I know not to stress too much about 12th fret not being exactly in the middle. But how precise do they need to be for it to be "acceptable"?
12th fret should be within 2-3MMish, this extra is compensation for intonation...
As for fret spacings, as long as they are within .5MM there really isnt to much of an issue.
Unless you have hearing like a Dingo or a Bat, you wont hear any difference..... (now awaiting the howls of dissent )
