Once dry used a router to trim the headplate down and then filed down to the headstock shape.
Very carefully drilled the holes through. Taped the front of the headplate to try and avoid chipping and then drilled through with a small bit. Used a hole reamer to slowly come out to the required diameter.
Did a bit of a mock up to see what would look like with black hardware. Will fit different tuners as the ones fitted look too small.

Still have to sand back the headstock to final shape. Have to sand a fair bit off the back of the headstock as the tuners dont fit correctly and the string holes are not above the headstock face.

Looking good. Love that headstock overlay.

Finished shaping and staining the neck and found that the neck heel was a little rough and gouged from routing down. Did a cover up with some green abalone shell and found two pieces that would cover the area and cut roughly to shape glued to neck and filed to the contour of neck heel. Then worked through sanding grades to get smooth.

Have some abalone fret markers but tossing up whether to fit or not.

I would fit them, the dots would tie the fill piece on the back with the front and work well with the colour.
I'm really liking how this is coming together
