I used to work for Daz some years back, my ex and I brokered through them and Renderosity and the now defunct 3D Commune( was Mod on the Poser forum there). Daz were too hard to deal with and too demanding,my ex spat the dummy at one of their sales reps one day and that was the end of that. LOL

Seems to be a bit of upheaval happening at DAZ currently from what I can gather. I know my mate was talking about taking a step back and focusing on other stuff for a while. Always the way - especially in creative fields, easy to be taken advantage of cause obviously you like doing work out of the goodness of your heart. I like helping people outt, but you do have to look out for yourself as well.

Just finished this years Brass Band competitions. Unfortunately we did not win the overall silverware, but we did win the Test Piece and Stage March performances. We also scored well during the street march.
Now that that is out of the way, I have been gifted a new Trombone by the band to look after as my own while I continue playing in the band. I don't expect anyone to really understand what I'm talking bout, but this is a really big step for me!
Not only is the Trombone larger and heavier, it has a larger bore, so requires a lot more air volume to play. Lung workout, here we come!
I've heard Trombones have been described as a hollow paperclip, and in their purest form, the Tenor Trombone, they are exactly that, just a hollow tube with a mouth piece in one end, and a flared bell at the other end. The last Trombone I have been using is almost 30 years old, but it has held up really well over that time. It is classed as a Bb/F Trombone, and it has a trigger mechanism that opens up another length of pipe and provides a greater range of notes, especially in the lower register.
The new Trombone I have just received is a Bb/F/Gb Bass Trombone, and it has 2 triggers! I can use it exactly like my other Trom, but now I have an additional Trigger which can be used either individually, or together with the other trigger at the same time. This will require a fair bit of research and practice to get used to it's quirks and possibilities!
You can see the physical differences between the two Troms in the photos!

Very nice. I presume the new trombone is a bit less bright sounding than the silver one?

It's a bit hard to tell just yet Simon. The bell is made from yellow brass, compared to the silver plating on the older trom. I'm still trying to figure out what has changed tone wise as I haven't played them back to back yet. The mouth pieces are also slightly different, so when I'm buzzing my lips, even that feels different.
    More practice needed!

Can't you use the same mouthpiece in both, or is even the pipe size different?

Good on you!! Anyone who plays brass gets my vote!

I have a sister-in-law who is a very tasty bass player, both electric and upright, and has decided that a change is in order so now plays the tuba!

I can, but I've never tried a different mouthpiece, so I'm experimenting with this one also. The first night I used the new Trom I swapped and changed between the two mouthpieces, but I've decided to stick with the new one for a while.

Nice! Is she playing with a brass band or maybe an orchestra?
