Found a nice Epiphone Les Paul on ebay - with a broken headstock. Brand new, a factory second, but looks great - delivered broken.
Convinced my wife it could be my Christmas present and bought it.
Of course it's a lefty
It arrived today and the resto begins:

pretty clean break, fortunately
look how thick the finish is on these, I was amazed

Very hard to see, but the top of the headstock is stamped "used", must be what they do with seconds....
Another look at the break - once again check the depth of the finish...
Body and electricals are perfect. Don't know why they put amber controls on these, looks wrong to me. My wife said it would look better with black and silver ...mmm.. vintage style, I think she's right
Cant really see it but there is a very faint stress crack at the neck join, probably happened when it was dropped.
Note the finish is so thick that it fills anything that looks like a join:

Time....
Those little spring loaded clamps are really strong, perfect for this
have already been on ebay looking at knobs, pickups...
I was going to try super glue and black dye/ink mixed to repair and fill the cracks that still show.
Any other suggestions?
It has a plastic nut... I think I have a Tusq one in my stuff.... I think this will get the hot rod treatment...

Geez Stan, what a score! ... looks like there isn't a scratch on it! (just bloody great break!) ... a nice little festive season project.
Considering where the break is (and the inevitable stress that will be put on the joint once the guitar's strung), have you thought about rodding/dowelling the join for extra strength, once it's set?

Alternatively if the joint doesn't handle it, you could always pick up an appropriate bridge and nut (maybe Adam can rustle one up) and give it the "Steinberger" (headless) treatment

Hey Scott, I actually said to myself "Steinberger" when I took it out of the box.
There are a few small scratches on it that don't show up in the pics: think of shop worn
Titebond should be sufficient for the fix. It's now dry and seems pretty strong, no flex or movement. So we are agreed Jarrod!
Nice little project Stan, I've got a couple of these epi Les Pauls and they're bloody great axes, I hate to ask but how much did they make you pay? Watching with interest on this one.
