hi guys,
I've been working on this one for a few months now. It was a bargain at the last birthday sale, and I picked it up for a steal. I've since sanded and stained the body, and acrylic clear coats are curing. I went with a burst even though there are some pretty stunning scratches in the veneer around the bottom heel - I just couldn't cover up that flamed goodness. I'm pretty happy with the burst (and that flame! man!!) and TBH I don't even see the scratches on the veneer anymore.
While the body cures I've moved on to the neck. I've sanded to 400 grit and am thinking of a natural finish using Aussie Oil.
As a homage to the original Starcaster look I am creating a whooping swirly thing on the headstock using frisket which I am planning to spray black. I'm hoping to get my white headstock decal to sit over this black portion. The plan is for the whoop to contrast nicely with the natural colour of the rest of the headstock, but if it looks crap I'll just paint the entire headstock black (it wouldn't be the first fail to be covered up ).
A few more black coats and a little light wet sanding and I'll be ready to start with the aussie oil...
cheers,
Gav.
