And we're back, another day's guitar work in the bag.

I've been sanding and have a lovely body to work with, so went for the black stain.



Then I began sanding to expose that beautiful grain ...



... and then it struck beer o'clock, so I'm not quite done with the sanding!

Also, if I can hit the right shade of blue, I think this might have to be "The GuiTARDIS". Dingotone is not yet able to supply a blue, so a Cabot Newburyport Blue or Miniwax Express in Indigo might be the go.

I'm getting some blue Colortone from Stumac for this job. It says it's concentrated, but can be thinned with alcohol or water. Anyone have any experience with this stuff, or tips on how to get a nice deep, vivid blue on an ash body with it?

Hey Glenn, I've used colortone and if you want a deep colour I suggest you try a little unthinned stain maybe under the pickguard area to see how it will look.
You may only need 2 coats but see how it looks after a test patch and 1st coat. If you want more blackened grain to come through then how you have the body now is probably too dark so a little more sanding the black stain off, you need some lighter timber so the blue will be visible

Hi Glenn,

Yes blue Colortone is especially fickle. It is the hardest to use of all the Colortone range IMO. Wokka's suggestion about using it at 100% concentration is a good one, but I would definitely suggest a test piece first. I used some blue on a Tele recently and really wasn't happy with the blue that resulted. Just a work of caution. On the other hand, many onthe forum are having great results with blue stamp pad ink from Officworks!

awesome Glenn, think its now ready to try some blue colortone, this should come up nice with a thick dark ash grain underneath. For some reason your photos came out a bit yellow
