The only issue I can anticipate is maybe sourcing inexpensive strings. I use D'Addario sets specifically made for a Fender VI and I think La Bella make a set.

Mine was originally a burst finish but the original owner had sanded it back to natural timber but still with the tort pickguard, then around 1974 I painted it black and put a white pickguard on it.
For strings I always used the genuine Fender sets and to be honest don't know if there were options back then.
As a player the thing to remember it is a bass and should be played as one with an extended scale so Vai et al need not apply.
Now, when are the kits coming on line
I'd be keen to buid a IV kit as its axe I don't have. sure the factory can sort it out
