    Guvna's RGa7 / Strat new projects

Now that our JB4-A is 90% finished thought id best start another project -Gas perhaps
    Picked up some unfinished projects from gum tree to play with;

Ibanez RGA7 body, neck and bridge only, needs pups - missing back plates and a few other bits -came with new bridge

Hi all, think i've jumped in the deep end here and will soon be crying out for help. got some emg 707 pups via ebay on the way for the rga7. initially thought i could repaint it but the curved binding looks to be so hard to mask making things tricky. also have no idea about the active pup business? never had a 7 string and not really into metal but gas has taken hold and this axe is crying out for some tlc.

3M fine line tape (3mm or 6mm wide versions) is the answer to the binding masking. It's a stretchy vinyl tape and follows the contours well (though use short sections in concave curves as it pulls off the binding if in too long a section. The main problem will be that unless you strip the existing finish off, the new paint finish will then be proud of the binding, so you'll need a lot of clear coats over the binding to counter any stepped-edge feeling.

If the finish isn't badly chipped, I'd be tempted to leave it as it is.

If the EMGs have their now-standard push-on connectors, you'll be best sticking with EMG pots and push-on wiring system. Look the wiring diagrams on the EMG site and see if any of them take your fancy.

You can always drill some new holes for extra controls if you have the space, and it looks like there's a large control cavity and a battery compartment already.

    hoping for 2 x emg707 / 1 master vol / 1 master tone / and still need to buy a 3 way blade switch- i think?
wanting to switch so i can use neck only / bridge only / and both all using volume and tone - if possible?

have a barrel jack (think stereo original ibanez RGA7) and non barrel to choose/use.
25k pots and 9v battery cable and unknown cap value - which came with pups
3 pin pup connectors - unsure if photo showing red cable at top of pic is the right way around.

hoping i have the right bits to work with and not require the solderless emg set up if possible?

    any advice greatly appreciated.

    regards
    Guvna

Just substitute the 3-way toggle for your blade switch.

I'd use the cap that came that came with them.

The red wire's the battery connection, the other is signal and ground. You'll have to strip back however much of the black/ground wire you need so that you can reach the 3-way switch with the signal wire and the back of a pot with the braid.

With EMGs, you don't need a bridge ground wire.

Might need weirdly for this one had a search and can’t find a non solderless diagram anywhere. Did a solderless kit come with the pickups?

    Edit: Simon found one
