Woohoo...gotta love Ads work. Got an email late yesterday....the big girl is on her way. This has stretched out for so long and the kit is just on its way now.

Big plans for the Big Girl.....extra bits sourced....wiring choices made....and finally the kit was ordered.

With all the junk going on around me, this build is so happily anticipated. Just gotta slow down and do "True Blue" proud. 😎

Actually very prophetic of you.....just completed another job application online.

I have been fixing and getting up and running my motorcycle....no guitars to work on....the one on my avatar piccy....a 1999 Yamaha TRX 850. I fitted a computer ignition system to her...gave her some new shoes....and have ordered two carby rebuild kits and two fork seal kits.

    But.....would like a job.....like a guitar to work on.....fingers getting twitchy.

Hi buddy, hopefully something workwise turns up soon for you. Not much on Seek in these parts but did see a well paying job advertised with Tacticall @ around $35 - $38 per hour on a casual basis. Most likely call centre type work but some of those places are into hiring diversity as they recognise mature aged applicants can bring valuable life skills that younger persons have not yet developed.

I have heaps of upgrade components to make this the best build I have completed so far.....apprehensive for what my skill level will produce...but so keen to give it a go.

Number one issue for me is the rubbing through on the edges....wet sanding....steel wool....polishing and buffing.

My process....sand...pore fill....stain....tru oil.....attach any transfers, stickers, decals......wipe on poly....auto products to wax shine and finish.

Is the secret to put more tru oil or poly on the edges? How do I get an even appearing finish if I have to put more on the edges? Is the secret to only do a limited number of passes with wet sanding, so less steps in grades....e.g. 800 1200 2000....instead of starting lower at 600 and adding 1500 in there along the way?

One other thing is how do you perfectly seat and match the end of the neck to the pockets? I have had hands on some home built kits recently and the contact and fit of the end of the neck in those is way better than what I have managed to achieve. These two necks are not covered by a pick guard at the base, so I would like to get them shaped to evenly fit into the pocket.

I have seen you tube things of using carbon paper to mark the neck end....but how do you only sand the bit with carbon on it...and keep the neck end evenly shaped?

Sorry guys....but seriously keen to make this the best build I have done. I am not aiming for fully gloss finish...just a blemish free and good quality finish. I have the good bits to make this a nice sounding, very playable and wonderful instrument. I just would like it to also look that way.

Any advice for a nervous an expectant Dad (guitar) will be happily stored for later use. I thank you.

Hi Ozzie, understand where you are at as that body is H U G E ! ! !

After doing the J Bass a while back it got me thinking about rounding off square edges, more for comfort but also for aesthetics too. On the Swampy Tele I purposefully dialled in a more Strat style rounded edging and it looks and feels great. Can't wait to finish re-finishing so I can put it all together and start playing.

With the neck seating on your Behemoth from memory the Bass neck's bridge placement is not pre-determined however on the 6 stringer side of things it looks like the post holes come pre-drilled. This suggests caution is required to avoid compromising scale length and end up with intonation issues. Looks like there is some overhang past those 22 frets on each board which should help cover up things at the deep end of the neck pocket.

When is the "Stork" due to arrive at your place? Bet you are dying to see your new baby, err, umm, guitar kit.

either spraying or wiping on TO, I've always started with doing the edges, gone on, done the body and then come back and done the edges again so they get extra coatings.
