    Rushburner ST-1A Build Thread

    Hello all of Pitbull Guitars!
I am new here and have just ordered my first pitbull guitar kit, the St-1 ash model. I have been a long player of guitars and instead of just buying a strat thought I would get my hands in on something which I love doing.
Currently own a Gibson les Paul standard gold top and a Martin acoustic! I'm looking to fill that single cool pickup void in my life.
Anyways this is going to be my first time doing a lot of things so I may be asking some questions from you professionals along the way! I'm a Canadian so it'll be interesting seeing the difficulty in aligning my time zone with others to have a conversation hahaha!
My goals are to achieve a fiesta red coloured body, either solid colour or if anyone can suggest some type of stain finish to still see the grain through but have a fiesta red colour I would love that!
I'll also be looking to swap out the pickups for something better than the standard that comes with the kit so if anyone has any suggestions on good pickups I'm open!
Anyways I'll be anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new kit to get into creating my new baby!

    Welcome and enjoy
Heaps of different ways of do trans colours so you should have no issues if that is the result you want.
A few great aftermarket choices for pickups even on this site, i like the Bensons a lot, but see what suits you

Thanks for the welcome and I will definitely check out the benson pickups!

Question here for anyone who may know, living in Canada it seems im going to have a hard time finding any kind of paint or finishing products for this. Every online supplier that ive see mentioned in this forum doesnt ship to Canada, huge bummer. So does anyone know of any place to buy guitar finishing products here, specifically a fiesta red colour hahaha. Worst comes to worst I shall change my colour preference and go with an acrylic lacquer spray finish.

Rush, drop into your local hard ware store and have a look at what stains and dyes they carry. Also check online for timber dyes in Canada, if we have local suppliers I'm sure Canada would as Aus is the land of "can't ship to there". Lots of guys have used stuff made for furniture with no issues. Most gun stores would carry Tru Oil.

I did a guitar in purple artists ink then clear over, see my sister's LP in my signature.

if you can get nitro, tru oil , Behlens musical instrument laquer, use any of those in preference to acrylic. People get great results with it but the curing can be very hit and miss

Some folk have even suggested leather dyes for other parts of the world where suppliers don't ship to. Believe you should be able to get Keda dyes possibly from Amazon who also supply Tru Oil too. Here is a link... https://www.amazon.com/Wood-Dye-Anil.../dp/B00BAKWTMQ

Edit: With a name like Rushburner I presume you might be a Rush fan seeing that they are also Canadians?

    Thanks for the tip!

And you're right in thinking my name came from the band rush, after my first concert ever was seeing them I made a username and being a creature of habit it stuck, strangely enough I'm not a huge fan of Rush hahaha

During the 70's & early 80's I was a big Rush fan but they went all weird for 2nd half of the 80's and beyond and haven't listened to any of their fresh material since. Absolutely loved the 2112 album but was probably more in love with the sound of the Ric 4001 and the drumming more than anything else. As we grow older our tastes also move on too.

Who are you into these days?

Neil Pert was definetly the best drumming I've ever seen live, a sight to be seen!
I'm one of those people who dips their fingers into anything and everything however is say my favourite bands at the moment would be Thrice, Mat Kerekes new solo album, been feeling the classic LED Zeppelin lately for sure, and I could go on forever hahaha

How about you I love new music suggestions
