    Hi from Christchurch

Hi, I just received my first kit.. an es-5v, very impressed.

I am an acoustic guitarist mainly but I play a VI (six string short scale bass) in my band ( http://troikaband.com/ )))

I've built a few dodgy kitset gats in the past with mixed results, I'll take my time on this one..

What grades of sand paper(s) are generally recommended for prepping the wood for finishing??

I look forward to learning some new skills.

    Cheers.

    David.

    Welcome Dave.

If you haven't already done so I highly recommend reading as many build diaries from the beginning pages to see what other forum members have done and encountered along the way.

That said, sandpaper grits used are typically 80, 120, 180, 240, 320 and once top coats have been done finer grade wet & dry grits from 1200, 1500 & 2000 would be the way to go.

    Cheers, Waz

Hey Dr Dave, Welcome to the forum. very cool kit, i look forward to your build diary.
Christchurch eh? I lived there for a year before the quake and I blame it for my lifelong addiction to fly fishing in the High Country and speights.

    Awesome, thank you everyone.

wazkelly, cheers for the grit tips, I've been thoroughly reading peoples build diary's, loads of inspiration.

Chuck, That IV looks amazing!! Another project I hace is converting a crappy 32" bass to a VI type of thing.

andrewdosborne, your ES-5v build dairy is the motivation for me buying the kit.

I'll start my build dairy next weekend, got real busy at work with some deadlines looming (I'm in an engineering trade & the recent earthquakes will keep me employed till I retire..).

I plan on upgrading the machineheads & bridge only at this stage. I'll upgrade the electronics once I get to know the guitar.
I get bits & bobs from here which is cheaper than getting parts from the states, they ship to Aus too.

    Thank you.
