    Hi everyone,

I am relatively new here and this is first playable guitar I've ever built. I've built many model guitars for friends as decorative pieces but never anything that is playable.

I built this for a good friend, he had always dreamed of a guitar made of Olive Wood, the Greek national wood. But as olive wood is far far too heavy even when fully dry, I suggested to him that we try something lighter (basswood) and add in some olive wood elements.

That's when this guitar was born. I cut all the Olive Wood myself.

I finished the guitar in a lovely sour candy apple green and applied several coats of high gloss spray varnish.

As you can see, the green goes perfectly with the natural golden color of the Olive Wood. I love the twists and turns you find in this unique wood.

The headstock design is my own, I veneered the top with two veneers, first a 0.5 mm thick Wenge veneer, then the olive on top of that. I did this for strength mostly, but also to make the sexy black line around the veneer, I think it made it pop out really well.

I also veneered the back of the headstock.

Finally a shot of the back, as required by the rules.

I finished the neck and headstock with 4 coats of danish oil of several days. It's super smooth and plays really well. I'll be uploading a video of the entire build process soon and I'll link to it here when it's finished.

It was a ton of fun to build, and I really learned a lot, I totally want to try my hand at something a bit more complicated next time!

Looking forward to seeing some great entries!

    Cheers all!

Wow, very well done! I love that veneer and the olive swirls. Really beautifull man, thumbs up!

But (because I can't make it up from your story); is it a PBG kit?
Nr 1: Red Widow LP-1MQ (work in progress) http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=7087

I've always played every amp I've ever had full up, because rock and roll is supposed to be played loud. Also, that's how you get your sustain.

Hey yeah, my bad, it's an ST-1. It was my friends choice.

Thanks so much for all the great feedback! I'm really pleased with the result and it really is rewarding to finally build a guitar that works!

It's funny how these odd timbers seem to pop out up all of a sudden from different sources!
One of my favorite acoustic guitar luthiers is not working with Olivewood.
