Thread: ST-1 Redback

  1. #11
    Some more stuff done:

Pic 1. How to turn an ST-1 headstock into a 3 + 3 (using the DB approved dowelling method) And yes, the placcy nut has been removed, and the 'stock routed to take a Floyd Rose nut. Plus - the white fret & side dots are now gone with red ones ready to be transplanted in. The board will then be stained with black plotter ink, then pure carnauba waxed.

Pic 2. The body is bit smoother now and the rout for the "portamento" humbucker is done. Unseen are the tunnels from the jack hole to the pup area, bridge and vol pot recess. I did these with a very long, small diameter spade bit.

More will be divulged soon 8O

Really nice job with the headstock conversion, is that add-on piece doweled in as well or just glued?

You fell out of a tree and landed on your head when you were a kid, didn't you.
This is one of those things that makes me want to look away but can't.

A: Bargy: Yes, look closely and you'll see the ends of five dowels on the left which run either side of the post holes right through the join.

    A: Lawry: Ha ha, that's when I discovered the Flux Capacitor . . .

Those markers look sweet against the dark fingerboard, did you actually pop the old ones out and replace or colour over the old ones?

    EDIT: I just read this...
"I just used DB's technique with the undersize brad point drill & scriber - absolutely perfect!
    DB rules "

and realized I've probably just answered my own question...once again...DOLT!
