    TL-1TH thinline tele build

    Hi all,
We received the kit during the week, but we unboxed today. It's our first kit.
Must say I was really pleased with the contents. The body and neck are great.
We are thinking of a "Gretsch" style finish. I have some metallic silver and clear coat, (left over from
painting the dashboard of my old Valiant) for the top and we'll either stain/paint the back and sides.
A bit of work to do before then however. I have added some photos, (hopefully got the imgur thing right)

We'll keep updating on progress, should be fun!

You just need to put the image code before and after the links to get them to pop up in your post. If you quote me and have a look before and after each link in teh square brackets you will see what I mean.

Keen to do one of these kits myself at some point.

    Build 1 - Shoegazer MK1 JMA-1
    Build 2 - The Relliecaster TL-1

I did one of these with the Bigsby type of tremolo. They’re a good, fun kit. The finish sounds awesome. Have fun...

I am building one with the bigsby. The website doesn’t have an image that shows off the cavity. Looks like this one has a bigger cavity for some fun electronic experimentation. How did you find the f hole? A bit thin? I’m reinforcing mine.
    Current Build:

Semi-Hollow Telecaster w/ 5 way switch (build diary)

    Hi Sonic,
    Thanks for the advice.
Have gone back and read your post and had another look at imgur. Will use the BBcode next time which I believe will add the codes for use in forums. Bit of a luddite with the computer unfortunately. First time I have been involved in
a forum as such. I should consult more with the other build team member , who at 15 years of age runs rings around me with this stuff!!

Thinline tele with a bigsby is a thing of beauty. Plenty of twang there. I own a couple of Gretsches, both with bigsbys
and I love 'em. My nephew is the other team member and hasn't had much to do with guitars so I thought the whole string
change thing might be easier for him with a standard bridge. Should be a nice project.

It is pretty thin but I didn’t reinforce it like you are (looks like a great solution by the way). I really do enjoy playing it.

    Hi Old Tooth,
Yeah, the f hole is a little thin. I would probably go down the route of reinforcing it if it was for me, but this build is probably more
about getting something cool together for the junior/equal member of the team and to have a bit of fun doing it. He doesn't play
so we're trying to balance how far we go with things. I would probably swap out the pickups and maybe have a look at some nice
tuners, but we are also on a budget. They sure are a cool looking guitar though and the bigsby will look/work great.

    So, just an update......
Chose a template for the headstock, not tele, more jazzmaster, but we both liked the shape and being our project,
we can do what we like and I think it works fine. Cut out with a jigsaw and rough shaped on the multi tool, then fine shaped to size by hand sanding. the photos show the template, (with ideas for paint,) and Tono using the bench grinder/multitool. Safety glasses and ear protection a must in the workshop.

(hopefully I've got the imgur thing right)

Hey guys, we got the bridge and neck on yesterday. may need a couple of tweaks, but looks pretty good.
Getting things lined up proved to be a little tricky but we concentrated on getting the bridge lined up with a centreline on the body and
getting the scale length correct. The neck will need tweaking to get the action/relief set up nice and we will need to make sure that the neck is sitting nice in the pocket, (don't think we have it bolted down tight, might need to go 1 size up drill bit so that the screws don't bind up on the holes ithrough the body).
    Overall though some good progress.
