G'day Ozzie.
This has convinced me to never do a solid spray can finish.

Wow, been offline for a long time and just discovered the news.
Thanks Adam & Co for providing a great business where many of us guitar builders have had the privilege to get to know you and...
Being underneath and behind what others will see I would not do anything.
Having owned a lawsuit era Ibanez Explorer the EX1 body shape is pretty damn close and I actually prefer the Pitbull control layout. Yes, the headstock shape is fatter on Pitbull guitars but a lot...
Great logo however I would recommend looking for a more rounded truss rod cover.
Plenty available online.

Hopefully truss rod adjustment is not frequently required and therefore placement should not be a functional issue, more an aesthetic aspect.
For me what works and how it feels are way more...
TO is best used on things that can take the amber tint therefore blue will always end up green.
Clear acrylic is probably best bet on blue.
Cheers, Waz
Best spot without a doubt, even more so on the EX-5 as it is so much longer and has 5 tuners attached.

G'day Ozzie,
I bought one of these earlier this year for a semi scratch build yet to be started. It has genuine J Bass width at nut but configured with a G Style headstock which is perfect for what...
Built 7 guitars all finished off with TO but it also has issues to contend with, such as premature ageing and discolouration that looks fine on anything other than blue which ends up green over...
Too much awesome grain to hide under a dark colour.
An ultra violet or magenta shade in high gloss would look great.
Will keep an eye on how this one progresses.
Welcome to the Explorer...
Hi Eathan, welcome to the ever expanding Explorer owners club.
Neck pocket pickup mounting ring seems to be a common problem and suggest ensuring intonation is a higher priority than aesthetics....
Never seen them before.
The stock kit pickups have good specs but didn't seem to have much too much grunt and output and I bought some Benson Customs a few years back. Quite expensive, even more so...
Yeah, I think the standard bass kit strings brand name might be CRAP.....Chinese Rubbish Aussies Play....
Seriously, D'addario or Ernie Ball medium round wounds aren't too dear and sometimes you can...
Sounds great Simon

Hi Ozzie,
Cheapie 1" to 2" brushes from BGSFOS which can be cleaned up in turps.
I tended to use mostly cheapest 1" and throw them after 2 coats.

Absolutely swear by brushing 1st & 2nd coats, even on a natural finish as it goes on quicker and thicker from the get go.

That turned out looking awesome.

Hi Ozzie,
Should look good with that colour scheme.
Suggest trying brushing 1st & 2nd coats of TO before starting with rag applications as that prevents dragging the stain finish all over the...
Yeah, I can relate to that.

True, and you will learn plenty of ideas to go back and either mod or improve the Yamaha. On any of my store bought guitars most of the cheap thin wire has been replaced with cloth push back stuff,...
Most of the kits come with standard sized components, therefore not oversized or long shafts.
If anything, you probably want to go with mini pots like Bourns or similar as they take up less space in...
Looks awesome.
Last shot had me confused until I realised it was a reflection of a clock somewhere in the background.
Looking good.
Never used that type of finish so cannot provide any meaningful advice.
