Well, wife had some emergency surgery, and I have to be seeing a family member this weekend, possibly the last time before cancer takes them from us. There's a lot to take care of regarding both...
Well Rook, I got a Duncan neck Ric pickup if you wanna buy it off me. Let me know. I sure won't be using it at this point.
I did some work on the body and neck. The thing is... I'm...
I have been planning this kit for a long, long time. Finally, I am in the financial place to start it! I ordered an RCA-4 on the 21st for my birthday, and it arrived on the 5th here in the States....
What the...? The paint peeled up the fretboard wood? I've never had that happen with rosewood...
I'm actually moderately heartbroken. I literally sold two guitars to buy a kit. :( Ah well. Maybe the factory could have better luck making conversion necks for guitars and basses? A 30" conversion...
Sooo next week as in this calendar week or the week starting next Monday? Inquiring minds want to know.
If better thin out my herd to buy one before they're gone then. :O
LaBella makes nickel, stainless steel, and flatwound strings for Bass VI guitars. I've tried them and love them. They also apparently make tapewounds for Bass VI, but I haven't tried them, and I...
+1 for Little Horn. Maybe a side output jack, instead of trying to cram it all on the top. The more I look at it, the more it's growing on me, though... But will 100+ people order the kit...?
$400 is only a set of pickups short of a Mexican Fender. $800 is more than some PRS SE models. I just don't see it working out, unless you can reduce the cost by just not including hardware besides...
There's a company called CaliG that makes a pretty inexpensive noise-cancelling Jazz pickup, but I dunno how their shipping policies change if you're overseas. Something to look into, though... but...
Cool! I'm glad to see somebody do an RD bass at last! Is the shape faithful to the original Gibson model? I'm disappointed to see that the kit had such a horrendous dent, though. That's a little...
I haven't ever seen a battery box cavity made using a drill before, that's an interesting way to do it. I kind of want to try that now. I really like the headstock, as well- very MM-ish.
Well, I'm pleasantly surprised! That's actually one of the best shaped T-bird copy bodies I've seen in a while! My next build was just going to be another RC-4, but after seeing how nice this looks,...
Update: no kit yet, and no word of shipment.
Rations are running low.
The future seems bleak.
Waiting for a custom kit is awful.
Why did I do this. Why didn't I just order an RCA-4. Why...
As a T bird enthusiast, I'll be wstching this thread carefully. I have an Explorer bass in my to-do, only because I can't find any good T bird builds. Here's hoping the body shape works asthetically...
Yeah my bass is all mahogany. It isn't gonna sound or look like a traditional Ric by any means. I just want it to be easier to get parts to help it have some Ric vibe to it. Custom cut parts eat up...
I checked their website for those parts, but I didn't realize they were just for Ric owners. That makes it worse. I know I could always contact a custom builder, but I wish someone would just go out...
Yeah, that pickguard is gonna conceal that insane grain pattern. I'd just trim it down to omit the center bit between the pickups and call it a day.
That's one mess of a pickup combo. If it sounds as wild as it looks, I'm stoked to see the end result!
30" gets my vote! Trying to get E-E Bass VI tuning on a 27 scale instrument is a pain in the neck. BUT! Don't forget that Fender/Squier makes a Jazzmaster Baritone model now that's 30" scale that is...
I know Duncan makes one... but it's over a hundred dollars! Plus I'd need a Ric pickguard to fit it, which is another 20 dollars. The mini HB came in the mail today and it looks like good quality....
I liked the Gretsch baritone/bass VI, but I didn't like how the electronics weren't very flexible. No room in the cavities to add switches or anything. Plus, it was a little neck-heavy while...
I owned a Squier Bass VI and the Pawn Shop model both back in 2013, and they were different... the quier had a thinner neck, less to really grab onto for me, and it made me like the Pawn Shop neck...
I do believe that the standard pickup included in the kit is a Firebird humbucker as well, in which case the strings would already be off the center of the poles. I suppose if the pickup pole pieces...
