No idea why the picture didn't attach to the post, but here goes again:
While doing an all day late at work yesterday I have finally started the task of sanding the guitar down. On first looks, the neck is in really good condition, however, the body is going to need...
I am loving that colour.
What did you use on the neck on your Strat build, Chrissy? And was it pretty transparent?
I took your advice and tried to ring them, but they are closed until the 3rd Jan, so will wait before I purchase it. The only reason I know of this stuff is some contractor chippy's built a custom...
For the neck I'm thinking of using 'Osmo 1101 Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin' would this do the job if I put on roughly 20 coats, so I can sand back and buff up for a more glass-like finish?
Finally going to start this in the next day or two. I've now decided what colour and hardware I'm going for, too!
How do you know when you have sanded enough with one grade of sand paper before...
I am loving this build thread! It's made me think my next project might have to be a tribute!
One question...what is the lower toggle switch for?
I have just test fitted the neck and marked the centre of the bridge and neck and ran a bit of string down the line and everything looks bang on.
I'm assuming there is meant to be a slight back...
I have ordered up my sandpaper, steel wool and glue this evening. Hopefully will get started on the sanding just after Christmas, if not it will be the New Year now.
What is the best clear coat to...
I love that bridge, I may have to do some research and possibly acquire one of those!
If you want to record to your PC, you can pick up a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for pretty cheap these days, and...
Have you guys ever tried the Russian equivalent of the ecc83/12ax7? Or even their 6V6 or EL84 tubes? They can handle much higher plate voltages and sound incredible. I use them in my builds, the...
Funnily enough I bought a transformer book from Australia on how to wind your own power, output and choke transformers. One day I'll have the nads to wind my own transformers, so I commend you on...
The plan was originally to go all out on this beauty, however, I have had a lot of time to reflect and I think I'm going to go a single colour for the body and front of the headstock and keep the...
Dr_Nomis, I love the plexiglass front of you amp. Home made definitely has more character...and people can tell when Ive made them!!
I've decided on a Jensen C12R for the speaker to go in the...
Hi guys,
I ordered my kit on the 4th of November and it bloody arrived by the 12th of December, talk about a winner! After some explaining to the wife, the kit was finally in my hands!
Its an...
Sorry for the delayed reply, my family seem to have been passing around the same flu and sickness bug for weeks now!
Unfortunately Marcel, I am more practical than pretty.
In the short time...
Haven't had much of a chance to do anything with this project lately due to the kids and wife sharing their germs with me.
However, this evening I DID manage to do the turret board ready to mount...
If you can get a copy of his book(s) they are well worth the money.
The other thing I wanted to try of Merlin's design was his Morph control, which basically has a small signal pentode (EF86) and...
I used a 20mm Armeg holesaw, then a 6-30mm step drill bit to widen it. Where I work, we have a full workshop, but the drill press doesn't have a very big chuck, so i'm limited to anything with a max...
I built myself an AC15 styled amp with the EF86 preamp, however, I added a parallel ECC83 input feeding into the EF86 and used two 6V6GTA instead of the EL84s. I must admit, I love the sound of an...
So today I managed to clean, fold and start drilling the holes in the chassis. There has got to be an easier way to put 28mm holes in mild steel! Still can't decide on what finish, if any to go with....
That's a better idea, rather than trying to use failbucket (I'm sure it never used to be that bad).
I'm really looking forward to my kit coming, nervous in case I bugger it up, but hopefully it...
I've gone for the JCM800 just because its pretty easy to modify and change without getting complicated. I use Russian tubes because they can usually take higher voltages and are a bit more ruggered....
While I am waiting for my custom order to arrive from Pitbull, in the mean time I am going to build (another) JCM800 style amp.
Its based on the JCM800 with a couple of changes; VOX AC styled...
