Greetings all... Last night I finally got around to installing the new SD pups along with some shiny new 250K Bourns pots and rather large 47uf Sprague cap and Switchcraft barrel jack. I wired it up...
Yeah two wires only, reading through the sales pitch they say they're single coils.
The SD SSB-5s rocked up yesterday :)

The box was just sitting in a bubble wrap lined envelope so it's pretty beat up and cracked in a few areas but the pups seem...
Well I lodged my tax return earlier this week and the estimated return was a bit more than I was expecting so I went ahead and ordered a set of SD SSB-5s pups! I cheaped out on the postage though...
Yeah I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt to start with - I should have tested them more thoroughly! I wanted to try and make this kit completely 'out-of-the-box' to see what I'd get....
Thanks Andyxlh... Something worth doing, do it right I guess! My previous builds from kits have been a bit hit and miss but I'm determined to make this one into something I'll actually use!
...
Thought I'd check in - it's been a busy week or so with work, stocktake and all the EOFY joys that go along with it!
I've been doing some tinkering with the IB-5 here the there to make it more...
G'day wazkelly... The new bridge looks good!
Thanks for reporting back with your findings so far. The string height looks more manageable now with the new bridge and the 16mm works well on the...
Nice... I'd love to try a 4x10 - from what I've read they have a fair amount of punch and with the right speakers/cab design can get plenty of bottom end. There's a new/old stock Hartke 4x10 cab for...
Thanks for the reply - I was on the Realparts website site last night and had it in the cart along with some new Gotoh tuners and pots ready to pull the trigger... Then I noticed the string spacing...
That's looking great wazkelly!
Have you got it back up and running yet? How's the Allparts bridge?
I think I have the same issue with my IB-5 as you did with the stock bridge - can't get the...
Yeah I think you're right about it being a Basslite, or a TE variant of it perhaps.
The TE marketing hype advertise it as 300W but if experience has taught me anything always take whatever sales...
Thanks for the write-up Simon... The MarkBass gear looks great and I've read good things about them.
That would have been cool to see. Yes I've noticed there's usually not many customers in...
Woohoo! Look what just rocked up :)

I wasn't expecting it till later in the week!
Now just have to wait another 4 hours before I can take it home and unpack...
Andertons... nice! Been a long time viewer of their youtube stuff - if I ever made my way over to the UK it would be one of my stops to go check the place out.
It would be interesting to hear your...
Yeah would be nice if they could but I guess physics dictate otherwise!
Hopefully it ends up being a smart choice! I live out in the country and we don't have any music shops nearby any more...
G'day Simon and wazkelly...
It certainly is an interesting subject and I've found myself doing quite a bit of research on it over the past few days. I can certainly understand needing more watts...
Well that was fun! Always something special about playing a guitar you've built yourself :)
There's a few things I need to sort out still like getting the action diallrd in just right, I think a...
Good to note thanks wazkelly.
A few other the other guitarists I play with also have basses (just cheapies as well) so I'll start taking note of the volume settings they're using on the bass amp....
Yeah I thought the same thing re pup height... Initial test I had them sitting fairly low and the signal was very weak - I had my little amp cranked full volume and barely got any signal so raised...
Thanks wazkelly and Andyxlh!
Some more pics and progress updates from the weekends effort...
Saturday arvo I spent a few hours getting the neck as straight as I could and levelling, recrowing...
Making progress...
The final coat of poly is drying well, after 24 hours it was completely dry to the touch - thought it would still be a bit tacky in this cooler weather, although I've kept it...
Thanks Sonic Mountain and wazkelly...
I have gone with the thick vinyl decal.
I took the first one off and prepared another one, this time I gave it a light coat with some sepia modelling wash...
Logo placement...
I printed a maple wood pattern on some vinyl and cut it out on the cutter just to see how the logo will look on it.

It's a heavy duty vinyl...
Thanks FrankenWashie... Yeah that's pretty much the finished product - few more coats of clear then a final rub down and I'll call it done I think.
The plug cutters I ordered rocked up today so...
