Thanks Dedman! It's a beauty and plays as good as it looks!
It's not black (even though it looks it in the pics)...it's a metallic flake dark (almost pewter) gray. The color is Ford's Chroma Caviar (had rattle cans made up at a local body shop supply store)....

It's finally done!!!
Soldering went better than I thought it would after 30 years...
Hardware installation was easy.
I had to do a little extra trimming on the pickguard.
She plays like...

No hole there, I did find a solution! Thanks all!!! Love this forum!
Thanks, I'll just have to improvise where the hole wasn't drilled!
Could I ground to the control plate? Would that work?

Going to hit it with Maguire's 9 Swirl Remover next.
Love the way the metallic flake is showing.

Ugh...started polishing the clear coat, forgot to be careful with the edges where it got thin...reapplying clear coat.

The headstock/neck is done...tuning pegs attached and had to redo the decal.
Man! Great looking build! I'm building the same model (my first build) as we speak...going with a metallic flake darker gray.
Not as far along as you are, but can finally see the progress starting...
Welcome! Can't wait to see the build progress!
Welcome! Looking forward to checking the build out!
I'm on my first build too!
I play 9s on all my guitars...just personal preference.
Beautiful guitar!!!
Wow!!! That's beautiful!
Thanks! I was going to go with a wax rubbed finish, but I'm leaning now towards a clear coat gloss...time will tell
I thought about a cream pickguard when I was considering purple metallic flake (to match my Ibanez S470), but fell in love with the D'Angelico SS with roughly this same layout.
The sides and back are going to be the same metallic flake, although I did tape the binding because I think that almost cream color would be a good contrast...I'm looking to go with a tortoise shell...
