After much procrastination went with straight true oil as the finish. Will come up nicely I think and the neck will be a touch darker. The Qld Maple will darken a touch more as this is only first coat.
Nice reverse contrast. Darker neck does have tons of appeal.
With a lot of 'roasted' maple necks around now, a darker neck is very much in vogue.
After a bit of a break did some finalisation assembly before the last few coats of tru oil on the body and got the placements right for screw holes. Test fitted the Obsidian wire three way prewired assembly (these are worth checking out-made in NZ) and all good. Has quick connect arrangement so no soldering and easy pickup changes.
Epoxy final sanded to 2000 and wondering if anyone had some tips on polishing epoxy for max shine.
So while patting myself on the back for how well this seems to be going, there is always the opportunity to do dumb shit and create an "opportunity for learning".
I'd just do the same as I do for for automotive finish to polish. 1500-2000 grit wet and dry until it's flat, then machine cutting compound, then polish then swirl remover like Meguires Scratch X.
Bugger about the dent.
EDIT - or drill thru maybe?
Could you route out a bit more of the recess to take up the damage and make a custom back plate?
